Position is located with Central Louisiana Supports and Services Center.
**This is a Classified WAE appointment. A classified WAE appointment is a temporary appointment of an employee to fill a position in the classified service for a limited period of time and hours in order to address filling the position in a regular manner, or to address an emergency or work overload situation. The classified WAE position cannot exceed 1245 hours during a twelve (12) month period.*
Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) implement a premium pay rate of up to $5.00 per hour the hours worked.
Shift Differential
2nd Shift Evenings Weekends/Holidays $3.25 (2:00pm – 10:30pm)
3rd Shift Nights Weekends/Holidays $3.00 (10:00pm – 6:30pm)
No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice practical nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state plus two years of practical nursing experience.
Function of Work:
To provide basic nursing care to assigned patients/clients in stable conditions and in predictable situations in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act.
Level of Work:
Advanced.
Supervision Received:
General from a Registered Nurse.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional over a group of Practical Nurses of lower levels and paraprofessionals.
Location of Work:
Statewide-health care facilities; correctional facilities.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Practical Nurse-Licensed, 2 by the assignment of supervisory and/or specialized and technical nursing duties.
Assigns, supervises, and directs the work performed by paraprofessionals and Practical Nurses of a lower level.
Provides sick call services to inmates housed in correctional facilities.
Provides emergency nursing care to inmates seeking access to medical treatment during non-sick call hours in correctional facilities.
Implements the assigned aspects of the patient teaching and discharge plan.
Intervenes appropriately and responds to deteriorating condition of patient.
Processes admissions, transfers and discharges.
Conducts and documents data base to include psychosocial and physical screening of patient and/or family.
Assists in developing nursing plan of care.
Prepares monthly nursing reports, charts, and other medical records.
Reviews accident and seizure reports.
Provides individual health counseling concerning diet, prenatal care, family planning, VD, and TB control under the direct supervision of Registered Nurse.
Documents activities in service records.
Assesses patient immunization status and administers appropriate immunizations.
Performs laboratory procedures such as hemoglobin, lead screening, electrophoresis, urinalysis, hearing, vision, and measurements.
Applies and changes dressings as assigned.
Uses medical equipment, i.e., intermittent suction and continuous suction machine.
Maintains routine enteral feedings.
May act as co-therapist in a group setting.
May instruct staff in basic nursing techniques.
May orient and train Practical Nurses of a lower level.
May schedule appointments for dental, eye, speech, language, and hearing care.
