Job Description:

Under general direction of the Section Manager, administers the Department’s Conservation Stewardship Program; organizes, evaluates, and implements the Department’s administrative rules, policies and procedures, and directives for Conservation Management Plans and other habitat management, protection and enhancement programs; coordinates with Office of Resource Conservation (ORC) Chiefs on the activities of all district field staff in the implementation and execution of the Conservation Stewardship Program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the development and evaluation of program-oriented studies and investigations related to the Conservation Stewardship Program.
  • Organizes, plans, executes, and evaluates the Department’s Conservation Stewardship Program.
  • Coordinates with and trains ORC field staff and other appropriate staff in the delivery of professional/technical services to facilitate the review and/or the development of Conservation Management Plans.
  • Serves as clearing house for federal, state and private conservation group programs that can be used for developing Conservation Management Plans.
  • Consults with the Section Manager, evaluates existing State policies, programs, procedures, legislation and administrative rules and develops, recommends and/or implements changes as needed or required.
  • Travels throughout the state for site inspections.

Job Requirements:

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a bachelor’s degree in fish, wildlife, forestry or natural heritage resource management or in a related biological science.
  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to fish, wildlife, forestry or natural heritage resource conservation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with representatives from federal, state, and local governments, conservation organizations, and the general public.
  • Extensive knowledge of natural resource management theory, principles and practices.
  • Ability to provide technical direction/supervision to lower-level natural resource professional supportive staff, and others employing the services of the department.
  • Ability to prepare/present technical data, statistics and detailed natural resource management reports.
  • Requires five (5) years progressively responsible professional experience in fish, wildlife, forestry or natural heritage resource management.
