Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs skilled mechanical diagnosis, repairs and maintenance to engines, transmissions, brakes, cooling, electrical systems, suspensions, and hydraulic systems to both gas and diesel equipment/vehicles. Operates specialized auto shop related equipment such as wheel balancer, tire changing machine, brake lathe, hydraulic press, hydraulic lift, diagnostic scan tools, fork lift, etc. Performs preventative maintenance checks and repairs on all key series vehicles/equipment. Performs arc, wire, and gas welding operations. Performs service calls as needed on all SCDOT equipment and vehicles. Assists in emergency calls and inclement weather, such as hurricanes and snow and ice.  Installs and repairs inclement weather equipment. Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
