Job Description:
PG&E Safety & Infrastructure Protection (SIP) Teams provide direct defense of utility infrastructure, conduct safety and prevention, mitigation, and maintenance activities on company properties or rights of way, year-round. In addition, SIP Teams provide safety standby services to PG&E employees performing routine work activities. A SIP team is staffed by a SIP Crew Lead and a SIP Technician who operate a PG&E vehicle that meets the minimum capabilities of a Type 6 wildland fire engine. Both the SIP Crew Lead and SIP Technician are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). PG&E has 45 teams located throughout our service territory in high fire-threat areas.
Job Responsibilities:

Accompany vegetation management crews during wildfire recovery to suppress incidental ignitions per the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) approval
-
May perform PG&E emergency standby duties, as needed by a “competent person” (pursuant to RC 23487) in coordination with the AHJ or Incident Commander

Mop up of fire-damaged PG&E assets as authorized by the AHJ
-
Required to maintain a Class C license
-
Required to participate in the Employer Pull Notice Program (EPN) with DMV
-
Participate in emergency drills, including coordination with the AHJ
-
Maintain EMT/CPR/AED skills and certification
-
Conduct safety inspections including defensible space inspections and fuel hazard assessment at PG&E facilities
-
Maintain a status of being physically fit; per the negotiated standard, to include initial testing
-
Support PG&E asset protection efforts including mixing and applying retardant
-
Maintain all required training as agreed to by the parties
-
May provide continuing medical and technical training and build safety awareness of crews (e.g. tailboards and work observations, confined space)

Supports monitoring of weather conditions during potential Public Safety Power Shutoff events
-
Asset protection at PG&E-owned facilities and may accompany crews, as needed and during wildfires, as permitted by the AHJ

Other duties as agreed upon by the parties in support of PG&E Field Operations
- May lead classroom and field training
- Maintains and performs repairs of assigned equipment and performs occasional heavy physical work
- Keeps records; writes and submits reports as required
- Assists others in performing accounting, budgeting, personnel, and material management tasks
- May provide training and instruction of use of a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment, such as chainsaws, weed eaters, mowers, pumps, etc.
- Performs other related work as assigned
Job Requirements:

Ability to drive safety in all weather and road conditions

Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays

EMT-Emergency Medical Technician 1 certification (must be a license issued by a California LEMSA)

Incident Command System 100, 200 and 300 certifications or equivalent

Must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license by day one of employment

Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior S-290 certification
-
Ability to work in all types of weather conditions

Basic fire fighter safety training which may include Cal Fire Basic Academy, National Wildfire Coordinating Group Firefighter 2 Certification,

California State Fire Marshall Firefighter 1 Academy, National Fire Protection Association Firefighter 1 Certification, military firefighter training or equivalent
Qualification & Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Associate degree in Fire Science, Natural Resources, Forestry, Business or other closely related field
- Five (5) years of fire protection leadership experience
- Local government/wildland agency experience
