Job Description:

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition. The Gottesman Center for Science Teaching and Learning brings together in one organizational structure all the Museum’s activities directed towards K-12 schools and teacher education. Urban Advantage is a partnership program in science education that involves eight New York City science-rich cultural institutions and currently serves over 300 middle schools and over 1000 science teachers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Helping the UA team plan and meet time-sensitive program deadlines including by constructing and updating a calendar of UA operations and logistics outlining tasks and responsibilities.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with the instructional and budget teams on the components and tasks that are part of UA’s annual distribution of science materials and equipment to schools and teachers.
  • Leading the operational aspects of implementing UA’s vision for strong partnerships between UA schools.
  • Shaping UA’s vision for sustainable partnerships between UA schools in support of UA program goals through collaborations and current research.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with the UA tech team to ensure UA’s online platforms support the needs of UA stakeholders.
  • Leading the design and implementation of UA’s voucher program, with the goal of increasing equity and accessibility and the overall utilization of vouchers with the support of the Director of UA and the collaboration of the Manager of Family Outreach and the Senior Middle School Program Manager
  • Collaborating with UA Director and Museum leadership on key budget decisions as needed
  • Managing communications with UA stakeholders with the goal of disseminating important UA information and program expectations, and gathering information from UA partners across the consortium to disseminate to UA stakeholders.
  • Developing and updating UA digital and printed materials, including vouchers, banners, EXPO materials, FSD flyers, and elements of the UA website.
  • Engaging with UA stakeholders creatively to understand contextual factors and align UA to participants’ needs, including by visiting schools, using surveys, or using other means.
  • Overseeing the annual UA applications and admissions process for schools and teachers.

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or a related field.
  • Five years of professional experience teaching science, developing, and implementing teacher professional learning programs, and/or teaching adults.
  • Experience supervising direct reports.
  • Exceptional organizational, time-management skills, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to be proactive and able to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues across the partnership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite.
  • The ability to work with confidential data and demonstrate discretion.
