Job Description:

Maintenance and custodial work of more than ordinary difficulty and performed at various parks. Work involves the performance of manual and sometimes skilled duties in maintaining grounds, playgrounds, and athletic fields of all sorts at parks and similar areas. Work is usually performed under the general supervision and direction of one of the various classes of Park Tenders, a Park Supervisor, or designee. However, some of the tasks may be performed with some independence, depending upon the nature of the assignment. May be responsible for the ground maintenance of small and medium sized parks in the absence of Parks Tenders.

Job Responsibilities:

• Operates hand and power spray equipment in spraying grasses and shrubbery to control growth, disease and insects.
• Waters, fertilizers, cultivates, trims, rakes and edges grasses, shrubs and trees.
• May be responsible for the ground maintenance of a small or medium sized park in the absence of the Parks Tender.
  Operates hand mowers, riding mowers, edge trimmers, edgers, and related equipment in the maintenance of a park.
• Services and performs minor repair on equipment used in parks.
• Assist with setting up for special events by placing barricades or other devices to detour/control pedestrian and traffic flow.
• Waters, using hand methods and irrigation system. Makes minor repairs to irrigation system.
• Operates pick-up trucks with trailer and motorized carts.
• Sweeps, mops, scrubs various City owned buildings; cleans windows and other custodial jobs.
• Carries heavy containers of garbage and dumps the contents into a truck or dumpster.
• Brooms, drags, marks and performs other related duties to keep playing fields of all kinds in good condition.

Job Requirements:

• Two (2) years of experience performing grounds maintenance work.
• Valid Driver’s License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E), however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver’s License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and must be maintained valid throughout employment.
