Job Description:
Provides direct safety support for all Massport construction projects and assists in the development and implementation of programs intended to ensure that all Massport facilities comply with federal and state occupational safety and health regulations.
Provides safety training and support as needed to reduce Massport employees’ exposure to injuries. Provides overall occupational safety support to all Massport locations and construction sites.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ability to record and analyze data related to safety violations and make recommendations for improvement.
- Advises the Safety Manager of the status of various safety programs as necessary.
- Participates in meetings and represents the Safety Manager as directed.
- Identifies safety training requirements and participates in scheduling, developing, and delivering safety-training sessions.
- Conducts or participates in pre-construction and pre-bid safety briefings for contractors.
- Performs site inspections regularly, identifies safety and security violations and makes recommendations for correcting discrepancies and possibly changing work procedures or behaviors.
- Represents the Safety Office with project managers in assigned construction projects.
- Performs site inspections and audits to assure compliance with safety regulations.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move an object.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; and strong interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of relevant Massachusetts and federal laws, regulations and codes.
- Ability to complete relevant training.
Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations. Strong grasp of 29 CFR 1926 Construction Industry Standards Preferred - Ability to pass airfield driving test and obtain an Aerodrome Ramp and Apron License.
- OSHA 30, OSHA 40 HAZWOPER, and any similar OSHA training certifications preferred.
- Ability to pass Massport security clearance and obtain a Massport security badge.
- Associate Safety Professional preferred.
- Ability to pass a Massport controlled substances test and security background checks.
- Current and valid driver’s license unrestricted except for corrective lenses.
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, public health and safety, occupational safety, or related technical field.
- 2-4 years’ experience working in a safety specific role desired.
- Four to six years work experience in a safety specific role desired.
- Training experience in identification and evaluation of safety hazards preferred.
- Sound knowledge of construction practices, construction sites and construction compliance issues desired.
