Job Description:

The Manager, Environmental Compliance and Sustainability is responsible for LaGuardia Gateway Partner’s (LGP) Environmental Management System (EMS) and assigned environmental programs for the facilities within LGP’s control, and leads LGP’s sustainable management practices. This role ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, city and Port Authority laws, regulations, permits, policies and guidance. The Manager, Environmental Compliance and Sustainability champions best practices in environmental management, including storm water, petroleum bulk storage, chemicals, waste and hazardous/regulated waste, air, and spill response control and countermeasures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements environmental strategies and action plans
  • Trains, promotes and raises awareness at all levels of the company, and for sub-lessees, of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on environmental compliance and sustainability
  • Analyzes regulatory requirements, and reviews and comments on proposed legislation in assigned program areas
  • Track and report waste diversion and recycling percentages. Develop programs and initiatives to increase and track diversion rates.
  • Leads the tracking of organizational energy, environmental and sustainability performance
  • Leads and ensures environmental compliance in all relevant areas, including air quality, storm water, chemical inventory reporting, hazardous/regulated waste, spill prevention control and countermeasures, and asbestos-containing materials
  • Proactively liaises with Finance to ensure sustainable procurement for goods and services
  • Ability to influence, motivate and mobilize staff in varied roles across LGP and service partners, both ESG and non-ESG, to drive continuous improvement and advance ESG performance
  • Lead initiatives across the organization which assess and monitor the use of energy and water. Implement process, procedures, and programs to reduce the Terminal B energy consumption, expenses, environmental impact, and benchmark current usage
  • Sets organizational sustainability targets, and develops plans to meet those targets; oversees plan implementation
  • Understanding and familiarity with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating systems. Ability to manage the LEED Certification process to completion.
  • Chairs the Environment and Sustainability Committee
  • Leads in the preparing and administering of airport policies and procedures for energy, environmental and sustainability areas
  • Strong command of the climate change and Enterprise ESG/sustainability disciplines, and keen understanding of related policies, trends and industry advancements
