Job Responsibilities:

  • Advanced understanding of reading prints and determine how to isolate protection circuits without jeopardizing critical equipment
  • Ability to respond to minor call outs
  • Can organize construction and maintenance work and create over all implementation/maintenance plans
  • Ability to perform infrared scanning substation equipment
  • Can assist with the installation of portable/mobile substations/transformers or other temporary equipment
  • Advanced understanding of AC and DC circuit principles
  • Demonstrate the ability to methodically/logically organize substation work activities
  • Adheres to Duke policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements (NERC and/or SERC), properly and accurately documents test results
  • with a timely completion
  • Can lead small and low risk maintenance or construction projects
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of company safety rules and work practices
  • Basic understanding of power factor, winding resistance, circuit breaker timing, and leakage reactance testing and interpret results
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete maintenance/construction activities on all substation equipment including but not limited to switches,
  • circuit breakers, transformers, regulators, PT’s, CT’s, CCVT’s and grounding systems
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete the requirements for Switching and Tagging on both the Transmission and Distribution systems
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of Human Performance practices
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate bucket, digger derrick truck other areal devices
  • Basic understanding of substation equipment isolation and clearances and grounding practices
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely lead small jobs and work independent of direct leadership
  • Clear understanding of regulatory compliance and the importance for accurate data and timely completion of assigned work
  • Understands limitations, never assumes, and will STOP to seek help

Job Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience or training (e.g. military)
  • Software skills including word process, email, spreadsheets etc.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment with individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Basic written and oral communication skills
  • Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces
