THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is a six-month trainee position where you will acquire the appropriate licensure for the Transportation Equipment Operator A classification, become certified on a minimum number of pieces of equipment for the assigned work site, and become acclimated to the department’s work rules, safety policies, and local reporting procedures.

In this position, you will be responsible for operating highway construction and maintenance equipment and performing a variety of manual laboring duties on a highway or bridge maintenance crew.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment.
Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
Overtime, travel, and shift work may be required.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Necessary Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner’s Permit on the first day of work.
Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.

Conditions of Employment:

This position requires operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Additional Requirement:

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
