THE POSITION

The Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation Services – Harrisburg District Office is seeking a dedicated, creative and well organized person to join our team as a Social Worker 2. Apply today!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Social worker 2, you will work with appropriate students with disabilities in local education agencies and identified schools in assigned geographic area within the six county area that this office serves.

Provide counseling, including vocational counseling, information, referral and advocacy to students with disabilities to enhance their successful transition from school to services provided by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and eventual employment.

Investigate student service needs by gathering and evaluating information available on the student’s current education levels, physical condition, age, disability severity, aptitudes, interests and abilities and other factors that will be relevant to their successful transition from school to employment.

Act as a liaison to the staff of local education agencies and public and private agencies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment.
Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
Telework: Subject to operational need and completion of training period, candidate may be eligible to telework part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or Forensic Social Worker 1 (commonwealth titles) (must have been employed in a commonwealth social worker job title on September 8, 2008, with continuous commonwealth employment); or
Two years of experience as a Social Worker 1 or a Forensic Social Worker 1 and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
Two years of professional experience providing direct public or private social work services, and a bachelor’s degree in social work or social welfare; or
A master’s degree in social work or social welfare.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
