Job Description:
Under general supervision, the Coordinator assists the department in planning, teaching and overseeing assigned environmental, marketing, or history programs which may include adult tours, birding programs, schools, scouts, other youth groups, and volunteers. Employee coordinates family nature events and develops educational materials.
Job Responsibilities:

Assists with bird, plant, and general nature walks and interpretive programs.

Maintains familiarity with and awareness of Quinta Mazatlan programs and activities, as detailed on www.quintamazatlan.com, the Quinta

Mazatlan Facebook page, and other related sites.

Assists with the development of outdoor interpretive materials, promotional materials for educational events, and writes articles for printing in newsletter and outside publications about educational programs and events.

Assists with the development of a photo library.

Teaches environmental education to school, scout and youth groups, summer campers, preschoolers, families, adult workshops, business groups, volunteers, eco-tourists, and all other visitors to the urban sanctuary.

Assists in the development of age and grade appropriate educational materials.

Coordinates and assists with family events, including working evenings and weekends.

Maintains birding equipment and other educational materials.

Participates in trainings, seminars, and monthly staff meetings.

Assists in marketing Quinta Mazatlan programs through on-site and off-site events.
Job Requirements:
- Must demonstrate ability to work with children and to conduct safe, informative outdoor lessons.
- Must be familiar with PC, Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic knowledge of educational equipment like binoculars, microscopes, and other.
- Must be willing to conform to dress code requirements and safety protocols as established by the City of McAllen, Quinta Mazatlan.
- Must be able to meet and greet the public in a friendly, courteous manner, using tact and diplomacy.
- Must be able to manage time efficiently with self-initiative, and oversee assignments through completion, using mature judgment.
- Must be a self-starter and self-directed.
- Must be able to communicate with colleagues, volunteers, and visitors, and must enjoy working in a team environment.
Qualification & Experience:
- Job requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Job requires some knowledge of and interest in South Texas birds, plants and other aspects of nature and conservation.
- Job requires one (1) year experience, whether as a volunteer or in a paid position, working with youth and/or adult programs.
