Job Description:

Under general supervision and procedural control, the Municipal Court Clerk I performs responsible and specialized clerical work for the Municipal Court to include entering information into computer, using keyboard, preparing correspondence and other documents, copying, proofreading, maintaining electronic and manual file systems, answering phones, providing customer service, operating office equipment and assisting with clerical and administrative function. The employee works with many different records/forms, receives and prepares information for further processing or record keeping, and performs specialized departmental functions and customer services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs cashiering functions to include handling cash receipts, collecting, verifying, and preparing cash reports, data entry and conducting daily balancing of assigned cash box.
  • Performs receptionist duties to include answering phones, routing calls, taking messages, routing and sorting mail, and providing general public information in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Performs general and specialized office clerical work, such as computer word processing, data entry, and filing, copying and operating office equipment.
  • Assists public with tickets, warrants, fines, etc.
  • Greets public in a courteous manner using tact and diplomacy.
  • Performs specialized departmental duties including CIP collection activities.
  • Collects statistical information and reviews, verifies, proofreads and corrects data, records and forms.
  • Processes, distributes, and files information, records, forms, documents and other information.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly customer checkout area and office work area.
  • Maintains electronic and manual records and files accurately in an orderly manner.

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid, Texas Class C driver”s license.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Spanish.
  • Must be able to use a computer and general office equipment such as copy machines, and 10-key calculator. Employee will be trained on departmental equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to work with various software packages including, Windows, Microsoft Word. Excel, power point and other Microsoft Office Tools.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent, and a minimum of two (2) years of advance study past the high school equivalency.
  • The City will consider three (3) years of City related work experience to substitute for lack of post high school requirement.
