Job Description And Duties

In accordance with Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-33-20 and, as a result of the COVID-19 rapid out-break, Caltrans will continue its hiring practices as they are deemed necessary to “maintain continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure…,” Candidates who participate in the interview process will be considered essential in promoting this effort and are not in violation of Executive Order N-33-20. Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, incumbent must retain a Class A Commercial Drivers License and will operate equipment, construction machinery, vehicles and tools and will perform labor intensive work associated with maintaining the state highway system and during emergency operations.

Eligibility for hire is determined by your score on the Caltrans Equipment Operator II Exam. You must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements

The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
Position requires valid unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver’s License [CDL B], with Tank endorsement [N].
An Audiogram and Medical may be required prior to being hired.

Candidates that believe they meet the minimum qualifications based on a pattern of education from the classification description (specifications) must provide a copy of their degree, transcripts, license, and/or certificate, along with the State application (STD. 678) to be considered for this position.
