Job Description:

Develop and edits documentation for policies, procedures, bulletins, forms, job aids, manuals and reference materials in support of the Mechanical Department and Rolling Stock Engineering. Documents can range from simple to complex, such as, work and operating practices, maintenance and overhaul information, technical instructions, safety concerns, and general informational issues. The technical writer will work on various forms of controlled documentation that can be applicable to new and overhauled passenger cars, locomotives, trainsets, their systems, and maintenance facilities. The technical writer will work individually and with document and content owners to develop and edit technically accurate documentation, while enforcing strong document controls.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Paradigm to manage documentation according to Document Management policies.
  • Learn and understand new tasks (both complex and routine) in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Provide writing and document control expertise to the Mechanical Department.
  • Must excel at researching, writing, analyzing, proofreading, formatting, editing, and managing all aspects of corporate, departmental, and site-specific information.
  • Conduct research as required and assist in the preparation of presentations.
  • Maintain and enforce strict revision control standards on all documents, as well as, logging correspondence.
  • Skilled wordsmiths that can provide documents and other materials concurrently for various projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the corporation’s collective bargaining agreements and organizational structure.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and experience to provide clear and concise direction on technically complex equipment.
  • Self-starter with project management skills, constructive problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills.
  • Proficient PC skills, with expert knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours if required.
  • Extremely detail oriented individual that possesses comprehensive knowledge of operational and mechanical information management.
  • Minimum of three years relevant experience (7 years without degree).

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent skills, knowledge, training and experience.
